Pregnant women experience an abundance of new and exciting things while the baby is in their womb, as well as after giving birth. Going further, most women consider their experience as a pregnant woman to be exciting, beautiful and life-changing. But what they don’t mention are the negative side effects of pregnancy that not only affect their body, but their hair and nails as well. Postnatal hair loss is unfortunately very common, which means you can’t scoff at the possibility that it could happen to you.

However, the cause for concern is limited as long as you’re prepared for this situation. Also, hair loss after pregnancy is like most of the other side effects in that they are temporary, and can make a new mom feel alone in the situation. This being said, here are some of the things you should keep in mind with regards to postnatal hair loss.

Post Pregnancy Hair Loss TipsNatural Hair CycleYour hair has 3 stages of growth:

                                                • In the first stage, a.k.a. the terminal growth stage, it’s actively growing for a number of years.
                                                • The second stage involves the hair staying in place without growth for approximately 1-3 months. While the hair is resting in this stage, there are chemical changes happening in the hair follicles.
                                                • At the end of the rest phase, the third phase happens, which is when your hair falls out. You can see 100 strands of hair shed from your head each day without cause for concern; once a strand falls out, a new hair grows in to replace it. Unfortunately though, the replacements don’t always come, which is when hair loss happens.
Causes of Hair Loss in WomenThe main cause of hair loss after pregnancy is due to the hormonal changes that a woman’s body goes through. During pregnancy, women are taking prenatal vitamins that enable strands of hair which would normally shed or fall out to remain intact and continue growing; this causes your hair to become fuller and thicker during pregnancy. However, hormones create hair loss problems after you’ve delivered the baby, and it could be a while before you see the hair again. In fact, the amount of time it takes for women to notice a difference in hair growth is 1-3 months after labor.

In addition to the hormone problem, it’s completely normal to see hair fall out after discontinued use of any prenatal vitamins or change in diet following birth. Another reason why you could experience hair loss during pregnancy is due to a deficiency of minerals and vitamins. To help fix both of these problems, incorporate more fruits and vegetables into your diet.

General InformationYour hair’s natural terminal length is 5-7 years, depending on the individual. This enables hair that is in a resting phase to fall out so that new hair can grow in. But pregnancy causes the resting phase to pause, which lets current hairs keep growing. When the hormones reach a normal state again after pregnancy, the hair that was being held intact during the extended resting phase will fall out rapidly. Hair loss can take up to 6 months to get back to normal, but there are steps that you can take to keep the loss at a comfortable pace. Here is a list of things to consider trying to keep hair on your head.

Common Areas of Postnatal Hair LossPostnatal hair loss is described as an overall thinning, rather than a single bald spot. But along with this, there are parts of your scalp that have more hair loss than others. You may see thinner hair around the front hairline, top of your head, behind your ears, or around your temples. Some people see a combination of major hair loss in these areas, while others will only have one or two affected areas.

When is Hair Loss Serious?Since hair loss can be caused by anything from hormonal imbalances to more serious things such as malnutrition, you should bring the hair loss issue up with your doctor if it continues 6 months after the child is born. In some cases, they can prescribe simple medications for your issue, which will make you feel more at ease. It is important to mention that medications often take months to show results, and the hair loss will normally stop without the help of medicine.

Avoid Pulling HairThe next piece of advice is to avoid hair styles that pull your hair taut. This includes tight ponytails, braids, weaves or cornrows. This may sound odd considering that hair can become annoying when it hangs in your face, but a simple solution is to use a hair clip instead. These hairstyles will cause hair to fall because they tend to pull and add stress on the scalp.

How to Manage Wet HairUse shampoo and conditioner that contains hair-strengthening ingredients like silica biotin, or keratin. Your hair becomes incredibly vulnerable when wet, which causes it to be weak enough to break and fall out easily. When you’re dealing with wet hair, handle it with caution so as not to accidentally pull hair out. You will see best results by using a comb with large teeth on wet hair.

Be Gentle with Styling ToolsUsing a blow dryer can cause a lot of stress on strands, and should be avoided whenever possible. The same concept applies to curling irons, hot rollers, and flat irons. Using these tools requires you to pull your hair taut, which is a step in the wrong direction if you want to keep hair loss to a minimum.

Diet and NutritionAs mentioned before, your health is reflected through the health of your hair, skin and nails. If you’re not providing your body with enough nutrients, you may experience a large amount of hair loss after pregnancy. So include fruits and vegetables into your diet (check our article on beauty foods, great guide on foods for your hair, nails, skin and eyes); an easy way to do this is to eat at least one cup of either raw fruit or vegetables before each meal.

It’s also crucial to get enough protein in your diet so that you can provide your hair follicles with nutrition and protection from the inside-out. These tips will also promote hair growth, which can be further encouraged by taking supplements like vitamin B complex, biotin, vitamin C and zinc.

In the majority of cases, women who experience hair loss after pregnancy will not be able to stop it from happening completely. But by following these tips, it becomes less of a burden, and can help you get back to a normal routine without having to worry about hair loss.

Vitamins That Promote Hair GrowthThere are over 4 million hairs on the average human's head, and these hairs grow over periods of time known as terminal hair growth, or terminal length. The average terminal length of each hair lasts for a 6-7 year period, and then the hair falls out so it can be replaced by a new one. And it's certainly a good thing that these hairs get replaced because they keep your scalp warm – and on other parts of the body – prevent unwanted debris from entering your eyes, ears and nose. With that being said, the hair found on your head is considered to be the most important area of hair on the body!

Unfortunately, many people struggle with hair loss, which robs them of the aforementioned benefits. Thinning hair or going bald is oftentimes a sign of aging, but luckily, hair loss can be slowed or even stopped altogether. If you suffer from hair loss or brittle hair, it may be caused by the improper care of your hair, or a lack of nutrients you are taking in. A person's hair and nails will oftentimes reflect the health of the individual they belong to. Fortunately, there are easier ways of adding the right amount of vitamins and minerals to your diet for healthy hair and nails.

However, before taking any nutritional supplements, it's always best to consult with a physician. This is especially necessary if you are pregnant, or have diseases that could become more serious with improper usage of nutritional supplements. Now that we've established this, here is a list of vitamins you should consider incorporating into your diet for healthier hair, skin and nails.

Vitamins & Minerals That Help Your Hair Grow FasterIronYour body uses iron found in red blood cells as a carrier pigeon to bring oxygen to all of the cells found in your body. If the body is deprived of iron, you could become anemic, thus causing you to feel tired or weak. When your body is weak, so is your hair, which leads to damage and breakage; so be sure to increase intake of iron after consulting your physician.

Vitamin HVitamin H is also known as Biotin or vitamin B7. All of the vitamins found in the B vitamin family are crucial to healthy hair growth, so vitamin H is no different. Biotin is responsible for turning carbohydrates into energy that the body can use. You should also know that Biotin aids in metabolizing the fats and protein crucial to enhancing and strengthening hair; you can find Biotin naturally in nuts and egg yolks. Another satisfying fact about Biotin is that it may ward off grey hair and hair loss.

Vitamin AVitamin A is an antioxidant important for healthy hair because it contributes to the production of sebum (oil) on your scalp. Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin that maintains and balances out the synthesis of retinoic acid found in your hair follicles. You'll find vitamin A naturally in meat, cheese, eggs, apricots, spinach, fish, liver oil, milk, broccoli, peaches, carrots and cabbage.

Vitamin CAscorbic Acid, which is a water-soluble vitamin commonly referred to as vitamin C, is great for hair growth because it's able to build and repair tissue. It’s an antioxidant that smoothes out some of the damage which occurs with inevitable exposure to pollutants that make hair and nails brittle. If you’re not getting enough vitamin C, you may experience hangnails and brittle hair. But as always, it’s important not to take supplements without consulting a doctor beforehand.

ZincZinc is not a vitamin, however, it is found in each and every cell inside of your body. For centuries we have used zinc for its ability to heal wounds quickly, and it works as an antioxidant to cut down the production of free radicals or molecules produced by everyday pollutants. If a zinc deficiency occurs, you will notice white areas on your fingernails; fortunately, this issue is easily solved with a zinc supplement of 8-11 mg. You can also eat veal liver, toasted wheat germ, sesame seeds, tahini (sesame seed butter) and dark chocolate. Make sure to speak with your doctor before adding a supplement to your diet.

Vitamin EBy including vitamin E in your diet, you increase your scalp’s blood circulation. Similar to zinc and vitamin C, vitamin E is an antioxidant that can be found naturally in wheat germ oil, raw seeds and nuts, green leafy vegetables, soybeans, cold-pressed vegetable oils or dried beans. For those who have blood pressure problems, it is very important to discuss vitamin E with your doctor since it can increase blood pressure, which causes serious complications.

Vitamin B5You’ll be able to find vitamin B5 in a variety of foods including the following: liver, organ meats, egg yolk and vegetables. This particular vitamin is also known as Pantothenic Acid and works in the same manor as vitamin H, and in combination, will create a strong barrier for hair loss. Vitamin B5 fights against grey hair because it contributes to melanin, which is responsible for your hair color.

InositolAgain, inositol is not considered a vitamin because it's able to synthesize inside of the body, but it still plays a role in keeping hair healthy. Look for foods like cantaloupe, oranges, and melons to find inositol in its natural habitat. The reason why you want to incorporate these foods into your diet is because inositol helps your hair keep its moisture intact.

Above all, remember that your hair and body go hand-in-hand; both need proper nutrients to function and maintain good health. Keeping this in mind, hair found on the body is mostly made up of protein, which is why protein should always be included in your diet. You can find protein in milk, eggs, soy products, beans and yogurt. Also, find foods rich in lecithin to make hair stronger; some foods with lecithin are wheat germ, yeast and calves liver. Simple changes to your diet such as these can reduce hair loss, and promote hair growth over time.

Airbrush makeup techniques is being seen as a revolution in the world of beauty and fashion. It was first used in 1922 in the movie Ben Hur and its popularity has been on the rise ever since, gaining the maximum momentum in recent times. The advancement in technology has brought about a lot of improvements in the way airbrush as makeup can be used. Now, its use is not just limited to makeup artists and professionals, anyone can use it easily, even on a daily basis. But like anything else, airbrush makeup techniques also has its advantages as well as disadvantages, which you should know about before you venture into its use.

                                                Airbrush Makeup Techniques
The airbrush makeup technique is similar to that of airbrush painting. Airbrush makeup is applied by spraying makeup on the face or body using equipment that converts makeup into a fine mist to enable it to be sprayed. The airbrush makeup equipment or airbrush makeup kit basically consists of a sprayer, a compressor, a hose and products like foundations and pigments that are required for makeup application. The makeup can be sprayed anywhere on the body, even on the eyes, lips and hair. A good quality airbrush will cost you around $75 to $150 and you should invest in an airbrush kit so that you get a good hang of how to use the airbrush makeup and the airbrush makeup machine.

                                                Airbrush Makeup
The airbrush spray makeup is specifically made for the purpose of airbrushing. An airbrush makeup mainly consists of fine pigments, solvents, additives and resin. A good quality airbrush makeup will be formulated using natural additives like mineral pigments, glycerin, vitamin E, aloe vera etc. The products are mainly water based and are free of any kind of fragrance or odor, which makes it absolutely safe for use on any skin type and even for daily wear purposes. The airbrush makeup equipment utilizes the most tiny molecule of the makeup product and oxidizes it so that it provides high opacity when sprayed. This is what gives a flawless, perfect and even skin tone after the application of airbrush makeup.

                                                Airbrush Makeup Application
Application of airbrush makeup is easy. You will need to follow the instructions that come along with the start up kit. For application of makeup on specific areas like only the lips pr only on the eyebrows, you will need to use a stencil. You can even highlight your hair using airbrush pigments which will last until you shampoo your hair the next time. So do not worry about experimenting, its risk free! After application of the makeup, make sure you wait until it dries, else it might get messy and will not last very long. Remember to use the makeup conservatively to avoid re-application of the airbrush makeup.

                                                Pros of Airbrush Makeup
Let's delve into the advantages of airbrushing and see how good an concept it is to enhance one's makeup.
                                                • Airbrush makeup, on application, gives you a flawless, perfect skin tone. It is easy to apply and a thin layer of the foundation or pigment is applied, making it almost impossible to identify that any kind of foundation is present.
                                                • Airbrush makeup is light and long lasting, it lasts for almost 18 hours. Re-application may be required only some times. It can applied to any part of the body to give it some kind of shape or color that lasts longer.
                                                • It is hypoallergenic and it does not get absorbed into the skin, thus eliminating the problem of clogged skin pores.
                                                • The tools used are sanitary as they do not come in direct contact with the skin and so they can also be shared.
                                                Cons of Airbrush Makeup
The only disadvantage of airbrush makeup is the price of the equipment and the makeup products. It could prove to be quite heavy on your pockets, especially if you need a technician to help you learn and practice its application.

5 Hair Care Best Practices for Preventing Hair Loss and Promoting Hair Growth
If you regularly wash your hair, style it with products or brush, you could potentially be damaging your hair or even hindering it's ability to grow. But with some advice you could make some minor changes to your hair care regime to change it from one that hinders hair growth to one that boosts hair growth. Follow these simple tips to help make sure you're helping, not hindering your hair on a daily basis -- in time it all adds up.

                                                1. If you use gels, wash them out
If you use hair gels, waxes, clays or any other sticky styling products you need to wash them out before you go to bed. When you sleep with your head firmly pressed against the pillow, styling products can work their way into your scalp and clog the pores. Styling products usually contain an array of chemicals that won't do newly developing hairs any good. Make sure you wash them out before bed to avoid this, or don't using sticky styling products altogether.
                                                2. Avoid shampoos sold in supermarkets
All the common high street brand shampoos contain chemicals that you wouldn't want to put on your skin every day, if you knew what they were. Have a look at the ingredients list on the back of your shampoo. You'll most likely see the chemical "sodium laurl sulphate", or some variation on that name. Even the top brands like Head and Shoulders, Pantene, Original Source and Herbal Essences contain this chemical and many others. With everyday use it's thought that this can damage your hair and even poison your body.
                                                3. Avoid tightly tying your hair back
Tying your hair back tightly pulls the hairs and gradually trains them to grow nearer to the surface of the scalp. Eventually they may grow so close to the surface that they lose their hold in the skin and fall out. The hairs at the front of your head are most likely to be the victims of this pulling and they are also the most vulnerable to the effects of hormonal hair loss.
                                                4. Avoid brushing your hair when it's wet
Your hair is more vulnerable to damage when it's wet. It's best to dry your hair with a soft towel and then leave it to dry naturally. Your hair will dry faster if you don't brush it as it will have a greater surface area exposed to the air. If you use leave-in conditioners don't rub them into the scalp. If you get a lot of split ends you should get your hair trimmed regularly, otherwise the splits will get longer and longer leaving your hair looking frizzy and horrible.
                                                5. Stimulate hair growth by brushing your scalp
When you brush your hair, use a hard bristled hair brush with plenty of space between the bristles. Make sure your hair is completely dry and vigorously brush your scalp, scratching the skin. Don't scratch so hard that it hurts but do scrape fairly hard. And don't do this if you have a dry, flaky or sore scalp. The action of scraping the scalp will help exfoliate but most importantly it will stimulate increased blood circulation in the scalp, which will bring nutrients to the hairs helping increase hair growth.

ConclusionMost people wash and style there hair very frequently, so even if you are doing something slightly wrong, in time it will have a noticeable effect. However if you make sure you're doing everything right, plus using some simple tricks to help stimulate hair growth, in time you will see positive results.

Home Remedies for Stretch Marks :Stretch marks are very common among women, while men are also capable of developing stretch marks (a.k.a. striae). Stretch marks are widely associated with pregnancy, and are created when your body experiences hormonal changes due to puberty or menopause; you can also develop striae when you’re losing or gaining weight.

Going further, the reason these annoying lesions appear on your skin is due to the breakdown of collagen and damaged elastic fibers below the epidermis layer of your skin. Now that we’ve covered the basic causes of stretch marks, let’s move a little deeper into the subject and also talk about how you can treat them.

Causes of Stretch Marks :Common reasons why stretch marks form are due to:

                                                • pregnancy,
                                                • losing weight too quickly,
                                                • gaining weight rapidly,
                                                • hormonal imbalances/changes,
                                                • puberty,
                                                • growth spurts,
                                                • bodybuilding.
Stretch marks are visible linear scars that pop up on your body where the skin is too thin due to the aforementioned breakdown of collagen and elastic fibers damage. The skin cells are no longer able to bounce back from extreme stretching, thus causing the dermal layer of skin to develop tears that appear as scars on your skin.

The areas of the body that are most affected by stretch marks include the thighs, abdomen, arms, hips, breasts, back, buttocks and the area around belly button. When striae firsts begins to form, it usually appears red, and then turns white over time.

Treating Stretch MarksThere are topical creams, ointments, and oils that claim to remove stretch marks or reduce their appearance; however, these products can cost quite a bit, and hardly deliver on the promises. There are also laser treatments available, but this too is very expensive.

Because stretch marks are scars, there is little chance of getting rid of them completely. So you should avoid wasting money on products that claim to eradicate stretch marks completely, and have realistic expectations when it comes to topical treatments. Using topical treatments requires discipline, and they may even need to be applied more than once a day. But they do have the potential to improve stretch marks’ appearance.

Treating only the symptoms associated with stretch marks or scars will not help lessen the appearance of striae. Furthermore, dry skin can sometimes appear around area of stretch marks; however, dry skin isn’t the cause of stretch marks. It’s also worth mentioning that moisture is good for your skin, but it won’t make a dent in the removal of stretch marks since the marks start deep within the skin’s layers.

Dermabrasion, or laser treatments for stretch marks, only affects the surface of the skin. This is not enough to penetrate deep into the dermis, where the tears have formed in elastic fibers. These treatments may be able to improve the appearance of stretch marks, but the side effects are redness (erythema) and/or scaling on the skin.

One stretch mark treatment that’s overlooked is eating better/keeping a healthy lifestyle. It’s never too late to begin a healthy lifestyle, and there are hundreds of benefits to eating better, including keeping stretch marks at a minimum.

Along with a healthy diet, you should be drinking plenty of water. Keeping your body hydrated will allow your body to function properly, meaning your skin cells are more likely rebuild areas that need repaired. The minimum amount of water needed to stay hydrated is five to eight 8 oz. glasses a day. An easy way to maintain a healthy diet is to eat one cup of fruit or vegetables with a glass of water before each meal. This helps reassure that you are getting healthy nutrients into your body while staying fully hydrated.

Be sure to supply your body with plenty of vitamin A, C and E, as well as zinc since these nutrients help your skin flourish. You’ll be able to find these vitamins and minerals in raw fruits and vegetables, in addition to fish liver oils, leafy greens, eggs, beans, nuts, seeds and fish. By adding more of these things to your diet, you’ll increase your skin’s ability to heal itself.

In some cases, if you’re taking medication such as oral contraceptives, you could be lacking essential nutrients needed to keep your body healthy; consult your doctor about any concerns here. Physicians will be able to prescribe or suggest dietary supplements to counterbalance the nutrients you may be losing to the medications.

:Homemade stretch mark creams can be used to treat scars, and are also great for other areas of your body that need special attention. You can use these recipes to make extra hydrating lotions that can be applied to stretch marks, dry elbows, knees, hands and/or feet.

Cocoa Butter and Oil Cream / Stretch Marks, Home Remedy #1One of the most effective ingredients in improving the appearance of skin is cocoa butter. This is the main ingredient in the following skin cream for treating stretch marks. Using this homemade cocoa butter and oil skin cream will make your skin moist, soft and supple. Here is what you’ll need to make the cocoa butter and oil stretch mark cream:

                                                • 1/2 cup cocoa butter
                                                • 1 Tablespoon wheat germ oil
                                                • 1 Teaspoon apricot kernel oil
                                                • 1 Teaspoon Vitamin E oil
                                                • 2 Teaspoons grated beeswax
Combine all of the ingredients in a medium sauce pan, and use medium heat to melt the beeswax. Once the beeswax has melted, remove it from the heat, and pour it into an airtight container. Store the cream in the refrigerator, and use after showering, and throughout the day until you have the desired results.

Olive Oil and Aloe Vera / Stretch Marks, Home Remedy #2Olive oil shows up in almost every beauty remedy recipe because it’s loaded with moisturizing nutrients perfect for conditioning skin and hair. To use olive oil as a stretch mark treatment, simply pour the oil onto a cotton pad, and pat the oil onto your stretch marks. To make this treatment even more nourishing, follow these instructions:

                                                • 1/2 cup virgin olive oil
                                                • 1/4 cup aloe vera gel
                                                • 6 vitamin E capsules
                                                • 4 vitamin A capsules
Take the six capsules of vitamin E, and the four capsules of vitamin A, and remove the liquid from the capsules into a bowl; then combine the other ingredients with the liquid from the capsules.

Blend the mixture well with a whisk, or by using a blender. This treatment can be applied to any area on your body where you have stretch marks such as the stomach, legs, arms, thighs or breasts.

Use olive oil in combination with aloe vera gel to treat your stretch marks. Aloe vera has been used widely to treat burns, but also provides positive results when used to treat stretch marks. Combine a small amount of aloe vera gel with an equal amount of olive oil, and continue to massage the mixture onto stretch marks. To get even more use out of aloe vera gel, use this recipe to prevent more stretch marks from occurring, and treat the ones that have already formed.

                                                • 1/2 cup olive oil
                                                • 1/4 cup aloe vera gel
                                                • 4 vitamin E capsules
                                                • 2 vitamin A capsules
In a mixing bowl, combine the liquid from the vitamin E capsules, and the liquid from the vitamin A capsules. Mix the remaining ingredients with the vitamin liquids. Massage into your skin to improve the appearance of stretch marks.

Vitamin C and Sugar / Home Remedy for Stretch Marks #3Use natural white sugar to exfoliate the problem areas of your skin for 3-5 minutes daily. This will remove the dead skin cells, and encourage more skin cells to develop.

This works best if you exfoliate while in the shower. When you’ve finished your shower, take two vitamin C tablets and crush them as finely as you can. Use a small mixing bowl to combine your daily moisturizing lotion and the vitamin C tablets together. Apply the lotion and vitamin C mixture as usual, focusing mostly on your stretch marks. Now saturate a cotton pad or ball with olive oil, and dab onto your stretch marks.

By using this treatment and the previously mentioned ones, you’ll go a long way towards reducing the appearance of stretch marks.

When changing your hair color, the goal is to keep all of the dye in your hair without staining your hands, face and the surrounding area. Unfortunately, this easier said than done because sometimes your glove(s) will rip or the dye will splatter, leaving you with unwanted messes. And as many people can attest to, scrubbing dye out isn’t exactly the easiest thing to do. Furthermore, there are times where the color won’t turn out the way you wanted, and in order to fix the mistake, you’ll have to remove the dye from your hair and start all over.

Whether you’re trying to get dye out of your hair or off of the skin, it will take some hard work. But hopefully, the following tips for removing dye from your hair and skin will drastically cut down on this work.

Removing Dye from Hair There are several different methods for removing dye from your hair, and the method often depends on the details of the situation. To expand on this point, you should go for the less harsh methods in the beginning, and step things up a notch if this doesn’t work.

One of the simplest ways to remove dye is by using some dandruff shampoo mixed with baking soda; when you do this, make sure the hair is wet before applying the mixture. Assuming you perform this treatment several times throughout the week, you should be able to remove the dye.

For those who’ve used a demi-permanent color to darken their hair, a good natural treatment is to make a water and Vitamin C solution; when mixed right, it should turn into a paste. The next step involves putting the paste into your hair and leaving it sit for an hour or so. Assuming you do this within a couple of days after your dye job, this should take most (if not all) of the color out.

If you don’t mind spending money to remove dye from your hair, you can purchase a hair color remover. These products remove the dye through chemicals, and all you need to do to use them is follow the instructions. Some of the most popular brands of hair color removers are Jheri Redding Color Fix, Jerome Rusell’s Punky Off, Color Oops Hair Color Remover, L’Oreal Color Zap and Roux Clean Touch.

Removing Dye from Skin The great thing about removing dye from your skin is that there are a number of different household items you can use to get the job done. One of the most common household items is toothpaste, and you should rub a small amount on the stained area, then rinse the area with water. You can repeat this process throughout the week until the dye is completely gone.

If the thought of rubbing toothpaste on your body doesn’t sound appealing, you might try rubbing petroleum jelly on instead. A couple of things to note about this method is that A) you will need a lot of jelly to get the dye off of your skin, and B) rubbing the jelly on too hard can cause irritation to your skin.

Assuming the dye is still on your skin, ditch the petroleum jelly and grab some nail polish remover. To use the nail polish remover, saturate a cotton ball or pad, and rub it onto the stained area. Much like the petroleum jelly, nail polish remover can also cause irritation to your skin so watch out for this.

Removing Hair Dye from Hands/Nails When removing hair dye on your hands, soak your hands in some "first aid strength" hydrogen peroxide for several minutes. After you’ve done this, use baking soda and a nail brush to gently scrub the nails and skin. Keep in mind that it could take more than one go with this method; however, it is still a great way to remove dye from the skin.

In some instances, you can add water to leftover hair dye, and then rub it in circular motions until the dye is gone. Use your shampoo or hand soap in combination with the dye/water mix for extra stain-removing power!

If none of these methods work for you, the last thing to try is a tint removal product found in most beauty stores. These products are designed specifically for the removal of hair dye, and they’re non-damaging to the skin; but they do come with a price tag.

Removing Hair Color from Hard Surfaces Getting dye on the surfaces around you is often an unfortunate byproduct of dying your hair. Assuming you have this problem, the first thing you should do is consider what surface the hair dye in on. For example, if you’ve stained marble or tile flooring, a great way to take care of this problem is to put some rubbing alcohol on a rag and scrub the stain out.

For those who’ve had the misfortune of getting dye on carpet, you should make a solution out of carpet cleaner and warm water; once the solution is complete, you can scrub the carpet until the stain comes out. Just remember that when removing dye from any hard surface, the quicker you get to the problem, the better chance you have for success.

Preventing Hair Dye Stains and Problem You can save yourself a lot of scrubbing and wasted time by taking precautions when dying your hair. For one thing, you can use baby oil or petroleum jelly along your hairline (not on your hairline) to keep the dye from sticking to your skin. Another big part of preventing hair dye mishaps is covering the area around you with towels. So if you are dying your hair in the bathroom, make sure to cover the floor and any nearby counters with towels.

Just by doing small things such as covering hard surfaces with towels or putting baby oil below your hairline, you can avoid the trouble that comes with having to scrub or wash out hair dye after the fact.

Whenever a woman hears about the Dominican Blowout (also known as a Doobie), she probably just pictures a Dominican woman blow drying someone’s hair. And maybe that’s what you thought of too when you first heard of a Dominican Blowout. But, there’s much more to it than that.

Dominican hair salons don’t just use a blow dryer or any other singular method of straightening the hair because those methods in and of themselves are flawed. Let’s look at these methods in a little more detail. You have blow drying, flat ironing, and the old-fashioned method of pressing the hair.

                                                TRIED AND UNTRUE
Blow drying is flawed because it doesn’t shape the hair. It leaves the hair volume-less, and oftentimes, the hair can look and feel dry and crunchy once the blow dry is finished. Flat ironing is flawed because,
as I mentioned in another article, it simply smooshes the hair shaft down without adding any lift or movement to the hair. Finally, the pressing method — which involves using a hot comb and a lot of grease — results in hair that is greasy, motionless, and sometimes — burnt.

Dominican hair salons use the Dominican Blowout (or Doobie) technique because it alleviates the flaws that are caused by the methods mentioned above. When you go to a Dominican hair salon for your blowout, they will do a four-step process on your hair: 1) cleansing, 2) conditioning, 3) roller setting, and 4) blow drying.

                                                CLEANSING
Cleansing is self-explanatory. You can’t get great results without first removing the impurities like dirt and product build-up from your hair. Your stylist will most likely use a Dominican hair product such as Silicon Mix Moisturizing Shampoo to clean the hair. You won’t find any Suave, Pantene, or Tresemmé here, honey!

                                                CONDITIONING
Once your hair is clean, the stylist will apply a conditioner to your hair. And not just any conditioner — a deep conditioner. A Dominican Blowout involves a lot of heat on the hair, so we deep condition to make sure that your hair is well prepared to withstand the process. Deep conditioning also works to repair the damage that your hair goes through with daily styling at home. Your stylist will use a product like Salerm Wheat Germ Conditioning Treatment to accomplish this.

After the deep conditioner is applied, your stylist will put a plastic cap on your hair and sit you under a hair dryer to let the conditioner soak in. After about 15 minutes or so, she’ll rinse the conditioner out of your hair to reveal clean, soft hair.

                                                ROLLER SETTING
The next step is roller setting. Now, you may be wondering why we roller set the hair before blow drying. We do this because roller setting gives your hair lift, bounce, and volume — resulting in a better end result.

Your Dominican stylist will wrap your hair around large rollers and then place you under the dryer until your hair is completely dry. This could take anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on your hair texture and type. But trust me, honey, the results are well worth the wait!

                                                BLOW DRYING
The final step is blow drying the hair to straighten it and set the style. Your stylist will remove the rollers from your hair, apply a heat protecting product and proceed to blow dry the curls that were just set on your hair. She won’t completely remove the curls. She’ll just blow dry your hair enough for the curls to become much less defined so that your hair will look bouncy and flowy, rather than springy and curly.

Waxing precautions and warnings left unchecked could leave your skin extremely red, burned or scabby. If you're ever unsure about waxing for any reason, always do a patch test first. This is only a reference guide, talk to your doctor or waxing technician if you have any concerns or questions.

                                                When to Be Cautious:
                                                • You're pregnant, take birth control, hormone replacement or antibiotics. Your skin may be more sensitive to waxing, so it's best to have a patch test (like a small area on your arm) and see how your skin reacts for 24 hours before getting an entire eyebrow or leg wax.

                                                • Smokers or those with Rosacea. Waxing can irritate dilated capillaries (weak or broken blood vessels) which are commonly found on people with Rosacea and smokers. If the capillaries are very red, stay away from waxing in that area.

                                                • You take blood thinners, have diabetes, phlebitis or want post- cancer hair growth in side-burn area removed. These all relate to medical conditions, so first get your doctor's approval before waxing.

                                                • You use powerful exfoliators on your skin. Salicylic acid, alpha-hydroxy acid, white willow bark, white willow bark extract and enzymes all strip cells from the skin. It's all too much exfoliation combined with waxing, and could make skin red, bleed or even turn scabby. So stop using these products in the area getting waxed for at least three days before, and three to four days after waxing. (Depending on the strength of the product and the type of skin you have the safe wax wait time time may be much longer before and after. If the alpha-hydroxy is over 8% then you may have to wait months before safely getting waxed.)

                                                • You recently drank a lot of caffeine or alcohol. These stimulants in your system can cause skin to be extra sensitive to waxing, meaning you could get more red or inflamed than usual. Give yourself a couple hours after drinking coffee or alcohol before getting waxed.
                                                When Not to Get Waxed:
                                                • You currently take Accutane, or have stopped taking it less than a year ago.

                                                • You're taking any prescription acne medication.

                                                • You have lupus or AIDS.

                                                • You're in cancer therapy getting chemotherapy or radiation.

                                                • You have been in direct sunlight for a long period of time or tanning bed within the last 24 hours.

                                                Areas Not to Wax:
                                                • Irritated, inflamed, cut, or sunburned skin.

                                                • Anywhere you're using Retin-A (learn more about hair removal and using this skin prescription).

                                                • Legs if you have varicose veins.

                                                • Any area that has a rash, recent scar tissue, a skin graft, pimples, cold sores, moles or warts.

                                                • Anywhere you're having dermabrasion services or have gotten them in the past three months.

                                                • The inside of ears and nose, and on eyelashes, nipples and male genitals.

                                                • Any place you've recently gotten Botox or collagen injections (about 3 -7 days prior).

                                                • Anywhere that has been waxed within the last 24 hours.

                                                • Areas you're using any alpha hydroxy acid over 8%.

                                                • Over or around body piercings.
Remember, even if you can't get waxing done, there are other hair removal options such as tweezing, threading, sugaring or depilatories that may be safe in your circumstance.

Even if you're a candidate, other issues from waxing like ingrown hairs, pain, bumps, bruising and more can also occur.

Dimensional hair color with a twist! During my years of working behind the chair in the salon, I’ve learned hair and fashion should always complement one another but recently a new approach to dimensional hair coloring has altered my thinking. Dimensional haircolor is offering new twists and turns that are stirring up the pot, making hair color extremely exciting!

Dimensional hair color has made significant shifts recently. The range of end results still span from classy to funky, but the quality of inconsistency is an unexpected look to modern hair color, similar to the miss-match of fashion in recent years.  Today, in fashion as well as in hair color, expected color coordination just doesn’t look modern. To illustrate this, imagine a red-headed woman, wearing a taupe colored suit, carrying a rich green colored handbag. Not matchy-matchy right? The bright green is the “surprise” element.

As a make-up artist as well as a hair colorist, I take complementary color very seriously and I love this fresh, new creative theme about dimensional hair color happening today. Everyone can get a custom look with a twist — fabulous!

In my earlier salon days, hair color was applied in a neat, proper, organized manner without any surprises. Surprises were considered “bad.” Now, I intentionally add the element of surprise, depending of course on the personal taste of the client in the chair.

I can also use a more subtle approach to a client’s dimensional color. She may not be able to identify what is different, but knows that something has changed about her hair color that makes it new and exciting.

Making hair color changes more vibrant and dynamic is vital to anyone spending time and money in the salon. Even the most conservative clients like change once in a while, even if it’s a tiny bit every now and then. This can be done with one all-over color or with highlights/lowlights.

Whether doing dimensional hair color, changing a client from brown to blonde or blonde to brunette, covering grey hair or doing corrective coloring, the results with new haircoloringtechniques just keeps getting better and better. I love what I do and I’m more excited doing hair color now than ever!
